The Tumour and I (Day 1): Can’t sleep, won’t sleep.

“Brrrrrrrrrrrrr wawowawowawo brrrrrrrrrrrrr” I awake to the sounds of Jakwob, that’s what I presumed. In fact, it was Brian (found out his name the next day – people I want to kill), the new patient who has a rare talent – snoring dubstep.

It’s 22.06, I’m angry, wanting it to be later. I’m not a good sleeper – oversensitive ears.

Silence becomes noise, my enemy, my rope.

I cry wolf, the nurse hurtles towards me with the pills. Secretly, I know that she knew what I couldn’t do – sleep.

I swallow pill after pill after pill after pill, and stare above at the only light in the room (see below), with open arms the sounds of Jakwob are muted and the room regains its darkness, comfort and silence.

Day one is finally over.
